We are experts in PHP. We build custom software solutions that align with your business needs, driving efficiency, automation, and growth.

PHP expertise and experience

We have been working with PHP ever since we opened our doors back in 2007. Even back in the day, 10+ years ago, we were known as an agency that anyone, including other agencies, could go to when things got tricky and a higher level of expertise was needed.

We are true specialists in engineering tailored solutions that meet unique business requirements. With a mindset of “nothing is impossible”, we collaborate closely with clients to ensure a deep understanding of their challenges and business goals, delivering reliable and effective results. From planning to execution, we are the safe pair of hands you can trust to solve complex technical problems.

We have delivered hundreds of projects across a wide range of industries, including travel, health and wellbeing, training, housing, and logistics. Our expertise lies in implementing efficient, cloud-based solutions tailored for small and medium-sized businesses.

We employ modern tools like static analysis, unit testing, and New Relic to ensure high-quality code and optimal performance. With advanced infrastructure, such as server clusters, cloud services, and robust practices like Git version control and high-availability server setups, we deliver stable, scalable and secure PHP applications.

Why we use PHP

We originally chose PHP in 2007 because of its low cost and huge wealth of online tools, learning resources and personnel who were knowledgeable about it.

Whilst there have been many new languages that have grabbed the limelight over the years, the majority of these have come and gone. We have stuck with PHP because it’s a proven, reliable, and constantly evolving backend language that powers some of the largest platforms in the world. It’s used by Facebook, Wikipedia, Yahoo and is the base of the most used online platform, WordPress.

Being open-source and having a vast community, PHP offers high levels of flexibility, stability, and support. We are confident that PHP will continue to be a leading development language for years to come, with trends showing PHP has been a widely-used server-side programming language for the last decade.

To summarise, we primarily utilise PHP because:

It’s widely supported: PHP is the most widely used backend language with a large global community, it is continuously being improved and supported.

It’s open-source: As an open-source technology, PHP is free to use and allows for flexible, cost-effective development without the need to pay for a license.

It has great scalability & is stable: Modern PHP allows for robust, scalable solutions with high-availability server setups and tools like Git for version control. It’s future-proof: PHP’s ongoing development ensures it will remain relevant and continue to grow over the next decade.

There are plenty of tools available to help us make our development work fast and efficiently. Tools such as Laravel and its related toolset.

Our tools & technologies

We utilise a wide range of modern technologies, tools and frameworks to ensure we are delivering high-quality, scalable, and reliable solutions.

Laravel

Our primary backend framework is Laravel, a versatile and robust PHP framework that enables efficient development of stable and secure systems. With its extensive built-in tools and advanced security features, Laravel allows us to quickly build scalable, high-performance solutions.

The main benefits of using Laravel include:

Open-Source: As an open-source technology, Laravel is free to use and allows for flexible, cost-effective development.

Security: Laravel offers robust built-in security features designed to protect applications against common vulnerabilities, making it one of the most secure PHP frameworks.

Speed of Development: Laravel is equipped with a wide range of built-in tools to help speed up development and aid the testing process.

E-commerce Platform - Shopware

Our choice of platform for e-commerce projects is Shopware. It's a highly adaptable and scalable platform with an extensive list of built-in features, providing a robust, scalable and reliable platform.

  • A Strong community and Support: Shopware provides excellent support and, with its rapidly growing community, continues to establish itself as a leading eCommerce platform.
  • Flexible and Scalable: Shopware offers extensive options for both the frontend and backend customisations. Built on a modular system that allows for customisation and to extend the platform easily.
  • Great product & Content Management: Shopware offers excellent product and content management.
  • Performance and Speed:  Shopware is optimised for performance, ensuring its codebase is lightweight and fast loading.
  • Security and compliance: With built-in security features, Shopware helps you keep your website safe and your customers’ data protected.

Backend Services & APIs

We have extensive experience in developing custom APIs as well as integrating with a wide range of existing APIs.

Our expertise includes working with payment processors and payment gateways such as Stripe, PayPal and Klarna. Integrating with CRM platforms like Microsoft Dynamic, Sugar CRM and HubSpot to streamline customer relationship management.

Our integration capabilities also extend to working with government services such as Companies House, allowing for company formations, automated filings and data synchronization in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Our experience enables us to deliver scalable, reliable solutions that optimise operational workflows and improve business efficiency.

Inheriting an Existing System

In addition to building new systems, we are often approached to take over the management and support of existing applications. Typically, these have become outdated, often running unsupported software and have outgrown in-house maintenance. This is often triggered due to performance issues and concerns around security. What started as a small in-house system, dealing with a small part of the business, often grows over time and becomes fundamental to the business operations.

Taking over the management of these system can involve a range of tasks to be able ot move forward. Some housekeeping, addressing underlying performance issues, migrating from legacy codebases to ensure systems are compliant and secure. Integrating with Git for proper version control and introducing development best practices.

”Our goal is to stabilise these systems, so they can be further developed and maintained efficiently."
